PLACERVILLE, CA JULY 16, 2013: Battle Rock Offroad Park in Cortez Colorado was the scene of some high horsepower action and thrilling finishes for both the Mountain and Southwest 2013 Dirt Riot 4×4 Endurance Series. The heat of the day was minimal compared to the heat of the competition, as the points would reveal multiple series champions at the end of this one race.
“The Cortez, Colorado event is always a good time with great support from the Jimmy’s 4×4 crew and the drivers that come from all over for the one opportunity to earn double National points at a race,” said Rich Klein, President and founder of W.E. Rock Events. “The course was fast, dusty and hot. But that didn’t detour anyone from joining us on the holiday weekend, and we appreciate that.”
In the Pro 4×4 Unlimited class, Chris Hoyt took the pole position in qualifying, followed closely by Brian Shirley. Even though Brian’s car broke 
early in the race, he did solidify his 2013 Dirt Riot National Championship title! Chris Hoyt went on to win the race, followed by Andrew McLaughlin who would take the Southwest Series title. 2013 newcomer Airen Patrick made his first trip to the podium to capture third place, with Colorado Ben Swain in fourth and first time Dirt Riot racer Travis Leach in fifth. Brad Lovell was back in the driver’s seat for Lovell Rock Racing bringing home a sixth place finish and enough points to secure the Mountain Series title. Todd Seawell took seventh, Jeremy Hammer eighth, host Randy Rodd finished ninth with Brian Shirley finishing 10th. Todd McCullen would also have his race cut early finishing 11th and Levi Shirley finished 12th in a “rental” while his car is in transport to the King of the Valley’s UK race this summer.
Every Dirt Riot race has a common theme of Sportsmanship as the core of the highlight story. Cortez has a breakaway bridge that all the racers have to cross in each lap. Ben Swain came into the bridge too tight and his passenger tires slid off the edge, leaving him in a precarious position. First on the scene was Andrew McLaughlin, chasing the leaders with Randy Rodd right behind him. Seeing the position Ben and TJ were in, he 
threw out a winch line and deployed “his Tim.” Tim Ray hooked them up while Randy moved in to the front position and threw a line on them from there. Recovery was made without incident; Randy’s winch line was removed first, followed by Andrew’s. As everyone got strapped back in, Randy pulled over to let Andrew take the lead that was rightfully his. Great sportsmanship all the way around!
In the 4500 Pro Class, Ironman Jeff Rector took the class win, although Jeff was not in contention for the series title having missed the Colorado Springs race, he secured a third place finish in the series. Mitch Funk took second, Alan Johnson took third, Jesse Bayne finished fourth and Shawn Rants finished fifth. Alan Johnson and Shawn Rants were working for points in both series, each had mechanical issues in this race but Alan was able to hold on for the National Title, followed by Shawn.
The Pro 4600 class race saw the Superchips buggy of Jason Kaminsky secure his spot as the National Championship title holder, as well as the Mountain series title holder. Jason was the only car in his class to run consistently throughout the day, averaging 11+ minute laps. All the other cars in this class broke sometime during the day, each only completing 7 laps. The places were determined by who completed that seventh lap first; Cody Folsom ended up second, followed by Ferris McCollum, even though neither of them saw the checker flag. Matt Salyers finished in fourth and Josh Jackson finished fifth.
In the Sportsman Classes, Ryan Miller once again took the win in Modified Stock, sweeping both the Southwest and Mountain series. Rawlin McGhie finished a strong second with Carlos Gonzales in third. Jim Rosato finished fourth and Jayson Mitchell took fifth.
Jason Davis from Spring, Texas won the Stock Trail class with Keith Sach in second. Rob Flandro and Mike VanZyl both had issues early on finishing third and fourth respectfully.
UTV class was stacked with 9 stock and capable UTVs! Local Stephen Lee brought a stock RZR to the gunfight, jumped out into the lead by the third lap and hung on for the win! Only about a minute behind was second place Justin Meador and then Cody Nygren in third, all completing 7 laps. Miss Darian McClure took fourth, Ocean Rodd finished fifth and Cade Gallimore finished sixth. Having early issues Frank Minice would take seventh, Brian Rector took eighth and Jeric Sona finished ninth.
The next Dirt Riot race will be the final Southeast Series race at the Durhamtown Plantation in Union Point, GA. The National Rampage will be in Bridgeport, TX on October 12. Information will be released soon.

How To Read Results: Drivers are listed in Starting Order. Column 1 is their Car Number. Column 2 is their Start Time. Top of Lap #1 is their lap time from the START (Total Time on Track from Start of Race), the bottom of Lap #1 is the Adjusted Time of their Actual Lap Time. The following laps are coordinate the same. The Final Time is the Adjusted Total time raced. Next Column is the Total Number of Laps Raced. The final column is the Finishing Order. Winner is determined by the most number of laps completed in the shortest amount of time.

Dirt Riot Mountain Championship Won by Lovell Brothers
The Dirt Riot Mountain Series finale was held this past weeken 
d in the scorched landscape outside of Cortez, CO. The heat and short silty course made for the most challenging racing conditions of the Dirt Riot season. Coming into the final event leading season points, team Lovell and the #1 AMSOIL /Torchmate / BFGoodrich Tires rock racer were not only looking for a win, but a championship.
While Roger Lovell claimed victory in the Colorado Springs event, he had obligations due to the fires in Colorado and was unable to make the race. This left Brad solo in the car fighting visibility on a tight and twisting course. “Qualifying on the pole was really really important in this race,” said Brad, “It was basically a drag race and there are plenty of other teams with more horsepower. I had a solid run but it was only good for a 4th place start.” Limited classes took to the track and dust plumes billowed into the air as the soft silty course got torn up. RYAN MILLER CAPTURES 1ST PLACE
ntain and Southwest Series, bringing home his 8th straight win and back to back National Championships. After an eventful trip to Cortez that including hitting a deer and later that day burning his hand, Ryan would miss the pre-run session and head straight to tech inspection and the driver meet and greet. During this time, with the help of Rawlin McGhie, Jason Feuilly, and other racers, as well as the use of Randy And Cottin Rodd’s shop, Jimmy’s 4×4(Thank you guys!), Ryan replaced the radiator in his truck so he could make it to the track. The next morning the #26 car was ready to make a charge to the front after drawing a 2nd to last starting position. Upon seeing the course, Ryan decided a co-driver for the race would be beneficial in the thick dust that would surely linger come race time. Ryan talked fellow Arizona Undertaker Jason Swigart into co-driving with him, fresh off of co-driving for Frank Minice in the UTV race prior. ance racing with a win in Frederickburg, Tx on June 1st. Jason Davis of CRAWLfish Racing decided to take the 17hr drive to Cortez, CO July 4t weekend to race the final race of the Mountain & Southwest Series. 20 racers in four classes raced heat #2 in blistering heat & dusty conditions making for a grueling race. The 1st lap were we chasing dust the entire lap but still only 18sec off the leader. One climb we came out of the dust & we were in the middle of a field with no idea if it was left or right. Lap two back in the rock canyon the tricky boulder hung us up putting the rig sideways in the trail but only down for about 20secs. On lap three something seemed to be lose & the engine coughing losing torque every know & then. By lap 4 we had enough of a lead we decided to take it easy so we could get the checkered. Our final lap thinking 2nd place was on our tail we got back into hard racing mode all they way to the checkered flag. Where the Texas boys took 1st place & 2nd overall for MOD/Stock trail classes. Fourth of July Weekend Dirt Riot Race Will Set Off Sparks in Cortez Colorado with Double Points Showdown
Friday Night Meet & Greet with Drivers at Jimmy’s 4×4 Outback in Colorado Springs

PLACERVILLE, CA JULY 3, 2013: This Saturday head to the Battle Rock Offroad Park right outside Cortez Colorado for a double points Dirt Riot 4×4 Endurance Race. The heat will be on the track where high horse power tough drivers will compete for the race win and two separate Series Titles, not to mention a National Points Title! The Dirt Riot Mountain Series and Southwest Series will both conclude with one wave of the checker flag on Saturday afternoon. “We had our first race here last year and the terrain that it offers so close to town and Jimmy’s 4×4 is awesome!” said Rich Klein, President and founder of W.E. Rock Events. “We are anticipating another great race with a lot of action, especially with the heightened series points battles in every class. Some are within one to two points and these guys and gals are really dodging for those titles, and payouts of course!”
The weekend will kick off at Jimmy’s 4×4 Outback on Friday night from 5:30-8:30 pm with a drivers meet & greet. Check out the vehicles, meet the drivers and also get shop tours through one of the most highly respected buggy builders in the Ultra4 and 4×4 offroad world. The address is 1780 Sagebrush Circle, Cortez, Colorado, less than an hour from Durango and other surrounding popular offroading towns.
The course at Battle Rock Offroad Park was a new track last year and most of it will be used in this years course, with some additions. It has some great spectator areas, with multiple viewing locations that can give completely different experiences.
There are many drivers coming from all over the western and southern states to compete in this race including, but not limited to, Pro 4×4 4400 drivers Chris Hoyt, Todd Seawell and Andrew McLaughlin. Pro 4600 drivers local Jason Kaminsky, Arizona’s Matt Salyers and Colorado’s Joshua Jackson. Pro 4500 drivers include Shawn Rants and Alan Johnson. The Stock Trail, Mod Trail and UTV Classes are open to all the local racers. The vehicles only require minimal safety requirements of doors, roof, four point seatbelt harnesses, DOT helmets and two fire extinguishers. Bring out your rig and join Carlos Gonzales and Jayson Mitchell in the Mod Trail Class and Justin Meader and Frank Minice in the UTV class among many others.
Spectators are encouraged to come and enjoy the day of entertainment on Saturday July 6th. Racing will be on course from 9am to 4pm, with awards immediately following. Admission is $15 for adults, $5 for ages 8-15, children 7 and under free, Military with ID $5 off and there will be 20% off coupons at Jimmy’s 4×4 on Friday night. ***** Double Points is Available ***** Here is how the fees, payouts and points will work:
- 1st Entry is Standard with Normal fees – You Must Declare Southwest or Mountain Series as your primary.
- If wish to enter the second series the Cost is $150.
- The PURSE for the Cortez race pays out as ONE RACE. There is no series separation in payout.
- The SERIES POINTS for the Cortez race will be separated by the series that you signed up for.
- For Example, if you sign up for both series and take 3rd overall in your class…you will get a 3rd Place Trophy and Cash Payout money for 3rd Place. However, when the series points are released, you may place 2nd in Mountain and 3rd in Southwest, it just depends on who registers for what series and their finishing order.
- The $150 cost for the additional series gets distributed to the Series and National purses. None of that money is included in the Cortez Race Purse.
